Mangat to make Subaru debut in Umospoc rally

JAS Mangat will make a first outing in his recently acquired Subaru Impreza in this weekend’s UMOSPOC Challenge rally. Mangat, who has previously posted impressive times in an under-powered Golf GTI, in April purchased a Subaru Impreza from South Africa female crew of Lola Verlaque and Mergan Verlaque.
Fellow competitors have been eagerly awaiting Mangat’s first appearance in the car since he bought it from the South African sisters.
The women gave their male counterparts a run for their money in the Pearl of Africa Uganda rally before dropping out in the ultimate stage.
Mangat, now in a more powerful car, is expected to measure up to the traditional frontrunners Ponsiano Lwakataka and Ronald Ssebuguzi.
The 2005 national champion Lwakataka needs just 30 points to reclaim his title from Ssebuguzi. The 300-km rally will cover Kampala, Wakiso and Luwero districts. The United Motorsport Club (UMOSPOC) event is the fifth round of the National Rally Championship.
Simba Telecom, Jomayi, GM Batteries, Petro Old Port Bell road, Highland Dishes, Alps Internet Café and Fire and Safety Appliances are sponsors of the championship. Entries closed yesterday.
