Love your neighbours, Museveni tell Christians

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has urged Christians to love their neighbours. He was speaking at celebrations to mark 60 years of Christianity in the North Ankore region held at Emmanuel Cathedral in Rushere over the weekend.

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has urged Christians to love their neighbours. He was speaking at celebrations to mark 60 years of Christianity in the North Ankore region held at Emmanuel Cathedral in Rushere over the weekend.
The President narrated an incident in 1993 when Pope John Paul II visited Gulu and Christians considered the hut which he used as a changing room as holy.
“The Christians built the hut and during the mass, I was among the people that the Pope blessed and poured (holy) water on me. I remained silent.â€
The President added that he returned to Gulu after a year to commemorate the first anniversary of Pope’s visit and was disappointed when he learnt that the hut had been burnt.
“I asked them how a person loves God who they have never seen but hates a neighbour,†he said.
“The Bible says God created man in his own image and teaches us to love our neighbours. It is okay to hate bad actions. But to hate your neighbour and love God is hypocrisy. You are committing a big sin,†he added.
Museveni commended the residents for their hard work.
