The World Food Programme (WFP) is building 40 housing units worth sh600m for teachers in Karamoja, reports Kennedy Oryema.

Alix Loriston, the deputy country representative, last week said the project would attract teachers to the region.

He said they would also provide solar lighting to the teachers’ units.
Loriston, flanked by the Italian ambassador, Umberta Plaja, was on a tour of Karamoja.

Plaja promised to lobby the Italian government to fund more projects in the region.

The Institute for International Co-operation and Development, an Italian NGO, has drilled over 500 boreholes and refurbished 100.

They have also built two blocks at Moroto Hospital.

The Italian co-operation has drilled two boreholes worth sh14m at Kasimeri Hospital.

Plaja said he would request his government to renovate Kasimeri Primary School.
