THE Queen of England Elizabeth II is not scheduled to tour Buganda kingdom sites during her visit to Uganda in November.

The British High Commission yesterday wrote to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi to clarify on the matter following media reports that Queen Elizabeth was to tour Buganda historical sites.

“I wanted to write to you regarding articles that have appeared in the Ugandan press in recent weeks erroneously claiming that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will call on you during her visit in November and visit certain historical sites in your kingdom,” Francois Gordon, the British High Commissioner, wrote in a letter copied to the media.

“As I am sure you are aware Her Majesty is not scheduled to make any visits to historical sites in your kingdom. I do not know the origin of these stories and unfortunately none of the newspapers that printed them attempted to confirm any of these details with this High Commissioner before doing it.”

Uganda is to host the Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting in November and the Queen is expected to preside over the three-day summit.

Gordon said he was concerned to read that fundraising campaigns had been launched to meet the costs of renovations of the sites in preparation for the alleged visits.

“I am sure you will share my concern that your subjects may be duped into giving financial contributions and will want to take steps to prevent this happening,” Gordon said.

He added: “As I hope, you will know by now, arrangements are in hand for you to attend an official function with Her Majesty during the course of her visit to Uganda.”
