The blind to show potential in Masaka

THE annual National Open Games for the blind and partially sighted persons of Uganda kickoff today at Masaka Recreation ground. The three-day event is expected to attract 15 teams nationwide.

THE annual National Open Games for the blind and partially sighted persons of Uganda kickoff today at Masaka Recreation ground. The three-day event is expected to attract 15 teams nationwide.

The Games will also double as qualifiers for the East African version later this year, which in turn will qualify athletes for the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.

Francis Kinubi, chairman Uganda Blind Sports Association (UBSA) stated: “The games are also about developing the sports abilities of the blind as well as drawing general attention to their potential.”

Team Gulu are five-time defending champions of the Games that include races in 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m and 10,000m, goalball, long jump, cycling, among other competitions.
