THE National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has allayed fears over the ability of the Gaba water plant to supply sufficient water to Kampala and Mukono.

Ganyana Miiro, the NWSC board chairman, said completion of the Gaba III water treatment plant would boost water supply.

“Gaba III has a production capacity of 80,000 cubic metres of water per day. That is sufficient water for Kampala and Mukono,” he said.
NWSC has also boosted Phase II of the Mukono-Seeta water project with a sh11b fund.

Miiro said the sh11b would foster construction of two reservoirs at Tucker Hill and Gulama Hill in Mukono and Seeta respectively.

“We will also construct two low-level reservoirs at lower Nabuti in Mukono and Seeta,” he said in a statement.

A booster station will also be constructed at Namanve, while a 11km 500mm DI reinforcement transmission main would be laid from Mutungo to Namanve.

This will boost pressures and ensure constant water supply from Gaba through Seeta to Mukono.

Miiro said NWSC was now covering all its operation costs, depreciation costs and capital investments.
