THE Police yesterday quizzed self-styled Movement mobiliser, Mugisha Mondo, over reports that he recently caned rowdy residents in Rubaga Division, Kampala.

For over seven hours, the Serious Crime chief, Tumuhimbise Baguma, questioned Mondo and would occasionally take him to various offices for further interrogation.

Mondo arrived at the CID headquarters in Kibuli with his lawyer, John Matovu, at around 9:30am.

He was released on Police bond at around 4:50pm and said that no charges were preferred against him.

The Police officers were tight-lipped on the matter but the deputy Police spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba, said Mondo was interrogated on charges of impersonation.

Mondo was recently quoted in the press referring to himself as the head of a new security group dubbed ‘Keep Kampala Clean’ after he appeared with a cane in Nalukolongo and Nateete.

He said the group had replaced the suspended Usalaama group to quell riots in the city.

Mondo’s actions and statements forced the Police to summon him and the Force’s spokesperson Asan Kasingye confirmed this last Friday.

Mondo, who got off sometime to receive calls while at CID, said he was summoned on phone.

He said he just used a cane like any other responsible citizen to disperse the rowdy residents.

“I acted as a vigilant Ugandan to stop people from taking the law into their hands.”

Mondo, a self-proclaimed pastor, argued that the residents had wanted to lynch suspected thieves arrested in the area.
Clad in a blue suit, Mondo appeared calm as detectives escorted him from one office to another. He was not handcuffed.
