FUFA intend to kick off the new soccer season with a televised game between Super League champions URA and Kakungulu Cup holders Express FC on a date yet to be fixed. The Super League fixtures are expected to be released today at Mengo. The game will be the Ugandan version of the Community Shield that always kicks off the English season.

FUFA competitions committee secretary Moses Magogo said the game was an innovation to add flavour to local soccer. He said that they were selling the idea to have the game televised live on pay television GTV, which has bought media rights for the league.

“We are considering ways of getting fans back to watch games. It would be great if GTV got on board to televise the game. We are discussing,” Magogo said.

FUFA and GTV are also considering having the league opener to be played between two of the local giant clubs. They are also planning to televise the game as a way of attracting fans back to the stadiums.

All the 18 Super League clubs will today participate in the draw for the fixtures at FUFA House, ahead of the kick off on
October 20.

The fixtures, which were due last Thursday, delayed after FUFA could not confirm Ben Omoding’s appointment in time. The veteran administrator will be in charge of all league records.
