SHOCK gripped staff at the BIDCO project when their colleague was killed by a crocodile at Bwendero Island in Kalangala district, reports Dismus Buregyeya.

Abbas Kulube, 29, had gone fishing on Sunday when the incident occurred.

The Southern region Police commander, Andrew Sorowen, said the legless body of the deceased was recovered on Monday morning.

John Adipa, the BIDCO staff inspector, said the deceased hailed from Yumbe district.

He explained that the deceased was fishing with Richard Okuju, a colleague, who escaped.

In another development, fire gutted over 10 huts at Kisamba fishing village in the district on Saturday.

Joseph Edopa, the southern region Police criminal chief, said the fire could have started from a house belonging to Joseph Musoke, a fuel trader.

A total of 12 people sustained minor burns as they attempted to recover their property.

Edopa warned the residents against storing fuel in their homes.

He called upon the Government to provide them with fire-fighting equipment to enable them efficiently handle fire outbreaks.
