THE Buganda Kingdom requires sh430m for the renovation of the king’s palace.

Speaking at the opening of the first exhibition at the palace last week, the katikkiro (prime minister) Emmanuel Ssendawula, said sh95m of the sh525m budgeted for the project had been raised, leaving sh420m. The Government recently pledged sh50m.

The exhibition, in which over 250 people from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania participated in the small-scale category, was opened by the Kabaka, Ronald Mutebi.

Cultural groups from Burundi entertained the guests. The event will be held annually to generate funds for renovation of the palace.

The Rt. Rev. Livingstone Nkoyoyo, the former Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, who is also the vice-chairperson of the development committee, said 30 acres of land had been cleared for the project.

Other activities include erecting a museum and developing grounds for events.
