EDITOR—The Dairy Development Authority (DDA) has closed down Fido Dido Ice Cream plant and Family Choice due to poor hygiene. Dr Nathan Twinasiko, the head of DDA says the products of the two companies were grossly contaminated with coliform and he has ordered that the products be withdrawn from the market immediately.

That is great. But Twinamasiko as the head of the watchdog institution needs to cast his net wider.

There is a dairy company in Uganda whose milk is full of long-term harmful additives. A routine but impromptu check is all that is required to net the culprits. Surely, contaminated milk puts the public at greater risk than ice cream because not everybody is interested in the latter.

I no longer take the milk of the company in question but there is urgent need to investigate the activities of these people because not everybody knows what is happening! I hope the National Bureau of Standards will read this.
