FORMER Internal Security Organisation (ISO) chief, Brig. Henry Tumukunde has returned to the country after three weeks in the United Kingdom.

A source yesterday said Tumukunde returned with his wife, Stella, on Sunday afternoon aboard Emirates airways.

Tumukunde left for the UK three weeks ago, with permission from the army, to go for treatment as well as see his children.

The army spokesperson, Major Felix Kulayigye, yesterday confirmed that Tumukunde had returned.

“It is true he is back and those who have been spreading outrageous rumours should be ashamed.”

He said, Tumukunde, like any other Ugandan, was free to return to the country. “I hope the Red Pepper will be humble enough to swallow their words,” he said.

Tumukunde was not available for comment but family sources said the army allowed him to travel to the UK for three weeks.

The media has been rife with reports that the brigadier had sneaked out of the country to the USA.

Tumukunde, who spent nearly a year under detention at the Senior Officers Mess in Kololo, is facing charges in the General Court Martial for spreading harmful propaganda.

He also faced several other charges, including creation of ghost soldiers on the UPDF payroll, abuse of office and causing financial loss.

The charges were later dropped and he was granted bail under stringent terms that restricted his movements to Kampala.
