PRISON’S Adero Nyakisi is set to renew her bid for a maiden road race title this season.

Nyakisi is one of several runners entered in Saturday’s Uhuru Road Race due in Kampala.

Nyakisi, who finished second in the National Road Running championships in Rukungiri last month, has steadily improved her tactics, and will be favourite to win the 10km event scheduled to start at 9am.

In the absence of other stars in Catherine Webombesa and Jane Suuto, who are in France preparing for next season, Nyakisi stands a chance of taking the honour with ease.

The road run, organised by the Kampala District Athletics Association, will set in motion the off season races.

The event will help athletes keep fit, ahead of the cross country season that starts late December.

According to the association chairman Geoffrey Kaggwa, the road race will start at Namboole, go to Kinawataka road and end at the Uganda Breweries Limited Luzira depot gate.

“We have already taken measurements of the route ,” Kaggwa explained.

“But we do not have details of the exact number of athletes who will be competing in the event.

“What we know is that most Kampala Clubs will be entering their runners,” said Kaggwa.

Clubs expected to be represented in the competition include Makerere University, Kampala International University, Ndejje University.

Other clubs are Prisons, Police, Nakawa, Makindye, Central, Kawempe and Lubaga.
