THE New Vision has published the third O’level revision textbook containing English, Literature and History. The textbook is strongly recommended for students in Senior Three and Four.

The Biology, Chemistry textbooks, and another containing Physics and Mathematics, were released earlier, and are still on the market.

The new book is a compilation of Pass O’Level pullouts that were published in The New Vision in 2005 and 2006. The initiative followed numerous requests from teachers, students and parents.
Colourful illustrations and pictures in the original inserts have been maintained and enhanced, making it captivating for learners.

“It is easy to read. Sometimes we use it in group discussions. I have been able to grasp things faster,” Nicholas, a student at Kampala SS, says.

“I use it to test myself. Even if I fail something, I know I will improve by looking at the answers,” says another student.

Teachers also agree the the Pass O’Level is helpful in class. “The book contains snap shot, simplified questions and answers. The questions are very well-illustrated, which enhances visual appeal and therefore, easy readability,” says Emmanuel Ngerageze, The New Vision’s Newspapers in Education manager.

“The books also have guidelines on how students can achieve stability in an exam room. The language used in the exercises has been simplified and the students will definitely benefit,” he adds.

The New Vision’s deputy editor-in-chief, Barbara Kaija, said the books would benefit many Ugandan students who would otherwise find it difficult to access one-to-one professional guidance during their revision time. “Now in durable print, both rural and urban students can access this quality revision material,” she says.

“With a minimum of ten varied subjects, to be covered in just four years, the O’levels are a test of endurance and stamina. It is not about being brainy or being in top schools, but it takes hard work and commitment,” she added.

Kaija thanked the education minister, Namirembe Bitamazire, for supporting the media as a partner in education.

The book was produced by a team of brilliant senior teachers: James Amatre, Idah Mugero, Vinansio Amone and Jackson Ojok. Copies are available at The New Vision’s outlets, offices and agents countrywide at sh12,000. Readers who are unable to access the books can call The New Vision on 0312337000 to have them delivered to their specific locations.

The New Vision has also published Pass PLE, revision textbooks for primary school candidates.
