MAKERERE University has suspended 10 students of Lumumba Hall following the burning of their warden’s office.

“These students have been suspended indefinitely. We are still carrying out investigations for more culprits who will also be suspended,” the Dean of Students, John Ekudu, confirmed on phone.

“Their case is before the University Disciplinary Committee, which will determine the final punishment for them,” he said.

In a demonstration on October 1, the students protested a decision by the warden stopping them from raising funds through self-help efforts. to rehabilitate their dilapidated hall.

Ekudu, however, denied this and said the students were taking advantage of the fund to con parents and other people of money.

A second-year student of civil engineering was later arrested and detained at Wandegeya Police Station.
Ekudu on Tuesday identified Remmy Mugaga, the chairman of the hall, as one of the suspended students.

“We shall not allow indiscipline to continue at the university. We shall suspend and punish all students that do not conform to the university rules and regulations,” Ekudu warned.

But Muguga said he was being persecuted by the university administration, because he was agitating for a probe into the university fence that collapsed recently.
