KENYANS Dismus Ndiza and David Odhiambo have heightened competition in the professional event of the Tororo Golf Open that tees off this morning. Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) captain Deo Akope confirmed the Kenyans’ participation in the Open.

Tororo Cement has staked sh2m for the professionals.

The Kenyans will be up against Ugandans’ Akope, Godfrey Mande, Stephen Kasaija, Herman Mutaawe, Dickson Lagoro, Amos Kamya and Sadi Atibu.

The amateur event of the 36-holes tournament is expected to attract over 80 competitors from Tororo, Jinja, Lugazi, Kitale, Entebbe, Kampala, Mbarara, Masindi and Fort Portal golf clubs.

Uganda Golf Union (UGU) stroke-play championship rivals Shaban Lwanga, Stephen Birungi, Vincent Byamukama, George Olayo, Brian Toolit, Denis Onyango and Gerald Ayella will feature prominently in the amateur category.

“I have a strong feeling I will win again. It won’t be easy but I will do my best,” remarked Birungi, who won the gross score category of the tournament last year. Tororo Cement has sponsored the competition in the eastern border town to the tune of sh10m.
