FORMER World 3000m steeplechase champion Dorcus Inzikuru has scooped an education scholarship from the Mukono-based Uganda Christian University UCU).

UCU Vice Chancellor Professor Stephen Noll announced the offer while hosting Inzikuru at the University on Monday.

Inzikuru, accompanied by her husband Bosco Acidri, was touring the University’s new sports stadium which is under construction.

The star was taken round the facility by the university’s vice chancellor for external relations Rev Dr John Ssenyonyi.

The stadium will be ready for the 3th Inter- University due December 17-22.

Noll said that sports should go hand in hand with education for one to live a happy life.

Noll explained that professional sports personalities who are academic dwarfs no longer have a place in today’s world.

“We encourage you go to back to school and we shall assist you to pursue your studies in any school of your choice until you achieve a qualification of your choice,” Noll said.

“It is not too late for you to go back to school, our offer is open and any time you make up your mind contact us and we shall foot your school fees.” Noll
Noll cited talented sportsmen who rose to fame but later languished in poverty because they neglected education.

Inzikuru, who is expecting her first child, promised to take up the offer and also bounce back on track next year.

“Humbly pray for me so that I have a safe delivery, go back to school and also return to the track,” Inzikuru who dropped out of Mvara SSS in 2002 in Senior four said.
