THE Bunyaruguru county Member of Parliament has attacked the Minister of Local Government, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, for calling his fellow legislators hoodwinkers

THE Bunyaruguru county Member of Parliament has attacked the Minister of Local Government, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, for calling his fellow legislators hoodwinkers, writes Chris Ahimbisibwe.

Gaudioso Tindamanyire said the MPs were telling the locals the truth on the issue of splitting Bushenyi district.

Otafiire had blasted the district leaders agitating for the split of Bushenyi district, accusing them of deceiving the people for their personal interests. He said asking for a district was a sign of backwardness.

“The people in my county are requesting a district status. As their representative, my role is to say what they want,” Tindamanyire said while responding to Otafiire’s recent remarks.

MPs Tindamanyire, Elioda Tumwesigye, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu and Deus Bikwasizehi want Bushenyi divided while Richard Nduhura, Tarsis Kabwegyere and Otafiire are opposed to the idea.

Tindamanyire said the locals were demanding a district because they lacked services.

The district speaker, Joram Tibasiimwa, said the matter be handled in Parliament. “The council resolved that the district be split, so you tussle it out in Parliament.”
