KAMPALA-The Uganda Diabetes Association will today hold a conference aimed at obtaining an estimate of the number of registered diabetes patients in the country. The conference will take place at Mulago Hospital, according to the association’s chairman, Prof. Marcel Otim. The meeting comes after the Ministry of Health said it would set up programmes aimed at improving the access to quality diabetes care in the districts of Arua, Kabale, Wakiso and Amuria.


Police asks for acid law

KAMPALA-The Police has appealed to MPs to enact a law on the sale of acid, saying some people were using it to commit crimes. The Kampala Extra spokesperson, Simeo Nsubuga, on Monday said the Police had received several complaints of jilted lovers disfiguring their spouses with acid.



26-year-old suspect held

KAMPALA-A 26-year-old man has been arrested for trying to con a woman out of sh4.8m. Frank Kawesa was nabbed in one of the Barclays Bank branches in the city, where he had gone to withdraw the money deposited by the victim. According to the Police, Kawesa had convinced the unidentified lady that her relative in the US had sent her goods and they needed to be cleared. He asked the lady to deposit the money on an account he had with the bank.
