JOEL Olweny made a statement that he still deserves to be national cricket team captain with a century against Kenya A in a friendly in Nairobi.

Olweny, who was dropped from the post just before the tour, underlined his batting prowess when he hit 102 runs as Uganda set Kenya a target of 303. Nandi Kishore (48), Kenneth Kamyuka (40) and Arthur Kyobe (38) were Uganda’s other lead scorers in the game.

The Kenya side collapsed at 204 all out.

In another game against Bermuda, Uganda fell short by five runs after falling for 224. Bermuda had set a modest total of 229 all out.

The games are part of Uganda’s warm up to the ICC Division II World Cricket League campaign in Windhoek, Namibia November 22-28.

The top four teams will be qualifying for the 2011 World qualifiers.

At home Stella Atim hit an unbeaten 114 as Uganda romped to a 179-run victory over Rwanda in Game 1.

Christine Aryemo’s 63 spearheaded Uganda’s 83-run win in the second game against the women tourists yesterday.
