NAMES of teachers who defile pupils and those who overdrink will be forwarded to the district service commission for interdiction. The Rev. Oceng Ocen, the education officer, said his office was overwhelmed by cases of defilement by teachers.

“Some people negotiate with the culprits instead of reporting them to the Police,” Oceng said.
He was meeting headteachers at Gulu district Council Hall recently.

Gulu Woman MP Betty Aol Ocan urged local leaders to sensitise the community about the vice. Ocan warned non-governmental organisations against distributing condoms to pupils.

“What do you expect the pupils to use the condoms for? Let us not poison the minds of our children. Instead of giving them condoms, let us teach them values of abstinence,” she said.
