EDITOR—The current reports that some NGOs have senior staff exploiting gullible Ugandans in return for jobs is not surprising to me! What do you expect a graduate who has been hunting for a job for over a year to do when all she has to do is sleep with the guy who matters and walk home with a lucrative appointment?

Though it is a sad development, it is one of the realities confronting us today! We have a system that condones exploitation. The mushrooming universities have naturally increased the number of jobless graduates.

The government tells them to ‘create jobs’ while employers need at least two years working experience. Where is this experience expected to come from? It would be feasible if there was provision for some financial support in form of capital from the Government.

But there is none! Employers feel that training people without experience is costly and time consuming! It would be better to try out these fresh graduates than shun them. Conditions like half pay could be attached to their employment.
