THE Bamba-Babwisi community in Bundibugyo district has broken away from the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu cultural institution in Kasese. During a meeting at St. Thomas Hall in Bundibugyo recently, the elders resolved that they were no longer subjects of the Obusinga.

The meeting, chaired by Fulgensio Bamwitirebye, agreed that those who pay allegiance to the Obusinga would be forced to leave the district.

They argued that the term Rwenzururu should not be used by a particular tribe since it was a movement fighting for the rights of the Bamba-Babwisi, the Bakonzo and Batooro.

The elders decided that a committee to organise the installation of their cultural leader be set up immediately.

They also agreed that the palace for the Bamba-Babwisi cultural group would be built in Bundibugyo.

The spokesperson of the Obusinga, Godfrey Kabyanga, said the break-away by the Bamba-Babwisi will not affect the Rwenzururu kingdom activities.

He advised the Bamba to remain calm and not allow their quest for a separate kingdom divide them.
