THE Electoral Commission (EC) has set December 13 as the voting day for the Bugweri county MP by-election.
The commission also banned fundraising activities during the period leading to the by-election.
In a statement released recently, the EC chairman, Dr. Badru Kiggundu, said the ban was aimed at allowing a levelled ground for all candidates in the race.
The by-election follows the nullification of the elections won by the third deputy Prime Minister, Kirunda Kivejinja, after a two-year legal battle with his opponent, Abdu Katuntu.
The vacant local councils positions to be filled include those of the chairperson and district woman councillor for Igombe sub-county, representatives for persons with disabilities and councillors for Walanga parish.
The electoral programme for the by-election started on October 26 when the EC declared the cleaning of the voters’ register. People in Bugweri county and Igombe sub-county who had registered earlier but had not received their cards, will get them during this period.
