GAMES - The UPDF is training 35 sports officials courtesy of Uganda Olympic Committee as they prepare for the East Africa Defence, Culture and Sports competitions in Kampala. UPDF will host their counterparts from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi for the regional military games next March. UOC’s Byaruhanga Kadodoba and retired football referee Catherine Adipo are the facilitators. UPDF Chief of Education and Sports Col. Moses Ddiba launched the course at the army headquarters in Bombo last week.

CHESS - Leaders Luzira registered a big victory over Mengo to tighten their grip on the this year’s chess league title with one match left. Luzira whipped Mengo 4.5-0.5, taking their tally to 47 points, five clear of defending champions Mulago Kings. Luzira’s Bob Bibasa, Shadrack Kantinti and Davis Agaba beat Mengo’s Joe Kaamu, Moses Nkonge and Henry Mwaka respectively.

KKL stars land big foreign deals
SOCCER - Two Kampala Kids League stars have landed deals in Europe and Asia after impressing scouts in Greece and Thailand. Dorian Klonaridis, skipper of the KKL team that participates in the Tivoli and Gothia World youth cup annually has landed a professional deal with Greek giants AEK Athens to play for their U-16 side. The Greek born player signed a contract with the Athens side last month whose details are yet to be established.
