PATRICK Ochieng emerged top in the CHOGM Special darts Open after edging Kenya’s Peter Wanjie 4-3 in a thrilling final on Sunday. The Mulago darts club player overturned the toss, by out-scoring the Kenyan in a seesaw affair at Regency Hotel.

Wanjie went full blast into a 3-0 lead, as the Ugandan took time to settle down.
Having gained momentum while 3-1 down, Ochieng clawed back into the game hitting top scores that included two 140s to level it 3-3.

But victory still looked destined to Wanjie’s way as he was left with a 58 balance. But Ochieng could not let it go as he cleared 100 before out-smarting his opponent with a 52 checkout.

“It was a tough game,” said Ochieng who promised the Kenyan another tough one in the Kisumu Kenya Open this month.
To Wanjie, it was lady luck that smiled for Ochieng. “He was very lucky, I lost my finishing touch.” Wanjie later paired with Paul Kiema to beat Ochieng and Ben Ociti 3-2 in the doubles.

The ladies singles went to Kenyan Rose Timothy who also edged Isabel Ngare 4-3. The two-day meet drew 160 darts players from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
