TODAY will be a turning point in the preparations for the Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF) as president Yoweri Museveni interacts with the youth at Hotel Africana.

The CYF chairman, Nasser Mukwaya, says the event is a precursor to CYF which begins next week at Botanical Beach Hotel. Mukwaya said the President will interact with about 600 youth representatives from different parts of Uganda on their major issues of concern.

At the request of the CYF secretariat, the president accepted to have an open dialogue with the Ugandan youth so that he can directly hear their concerns.

The event will, however, go beyond just hearing concerns to the level of discussions intended to yield solutions to the major barriers of the youths’ potential. In the morning session, the youth are expected to deliberate on the dynamics of business and entrepreneurship.

This debate is expected to generate solutions for breaking economic barriers towards enhancing young people’s participation in business.

According to the tentative programme, the morning discussion panel will feature Uganda Revenue Authority boss, Allen Kagina, who will present a paper on taxes and young entrepreneurs.

The chief executive officer of Bee Natural Products, Maria Odido, will also deliver a paper on trade in local products, while Santa Anzo, the chief executive officer of Arapapa will give a general scope on entrepreneurship. Martin Muhwezi, the executive director for Financial Literacy Week will also participate in the morning session.

In the afternoon, Museveni, gender minister Syda Bbumba, and youth minister James Kinobe will meet the youth. The session will be moderated by The New Vision’s managing director, Robert Kabushenga. Museveni will give a keynote address on the Government’s strategy to enhance young people’s potential in development.
