GHANAIAN soccer legend Abedi Pele arrives in Uganda tomorrow with the Africa Cup of Nations trophy. It will be the first time the coveted trophy comes to Uganda. The trophy will also be taken to seven other countries that have Standard Bank Group— Stanbic’s parent company.

The trophy will on November 26 be returned to Accra, Ghana, where the MTN Africa Cup of Nations tournament will be hosted in January and February 2008.

“By bringing the trophy to the people, we at Stanbic Bank are extending the rewards of being part of a Pan African Banking Group to football fans across the continent. We are giving people the opportunity to be part of this truly African competition,” Stanbic Bank acting managing director Sydney Mpipi remarked.

Pele’s three-day trophy tour of Uganda will include appearances at Stanbic Bank branches and an opportunity for the public to get autographs at Lugogo Shopping Centre.

Pele, a three-time African Footballer of the year, will officiate at the Kampala Kids League awards giving ceremony on Saturday at Aga Khan.
