THE German Foundation for World Population has trained the 25 delegates who will represent Uganda during the Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF).

“CYF is an important event that gives young people the platform to raise their profiles. That is why it is necessary to ensure that they get information to guide and back-up their interactions with the rest of the youths from other Commonwealth states,” said Carina Hickling, the foundation country director.

“The two-day training equipped our delegates with debating etiquette, protocol issues, and for generation of paramount ideas to deliberate during CYF,” said Nasser Mukwaya, the forum secretariat chairman.

Speaking during the training recently in Lubowa, Mukwaya said the training also helped them harmonise Uganda’s agenda for CYF and lay strategies to reap from the event.

Hickling lectured the youths on sexual reproductive health and rights for young people. “In seeking to unleash the young people’s potential, we should bare in mind that each young person’s reproductive health can be a decisive factor in determining her/his success or failure,” Hickling said. Hickling argued that reproductive health and the rights of young people is a barrier that we must break in unleashing the potential for the young people.

Reproductive health and the rights of young people are some of the topics that will be top on agenda during the Uganda CYF that will run from November 14 to 21. The theme of the event will be “breaking barriers, unleashing the full potential of young people.”
