KAGADI Hospital in Kibaale district has only two vehicles, both in a dangerous mechanical condition, the medical superintendent has revealed.

Dr. George Bateganya, while meeting the chief administrative officer, Dunstan Balaaba, recently, said the hospital’s ambulance could not move beyond a distance of 100km.

“The situation has been aggravated by the theft of three motorcycles for the outreach programmes.”

Noting that the hospital is the only facility that handles blood transfusion in Kibaale, Bateganya said: “It is very difficult to collect blood from Fort Portal Hospital and we can not pick very sick people from the villages.”

He added that the numbers of staff had risen but lacked adequate accommodation.

Bateganya appealed to business people to construct houses for rent near the hospital.

The hospital that also serves parts of Kyenjojo and Mubende districts according to Bateganya was planned to initially accommodate 200 patients but now hosts over 600 patients.

Balaba warned government-employed health workers against running private clinics. He said the workers should resign from their positions if they wanted to concentrate on their private businesses.
