CRANES will make the forthcoming CECAFA Championship in Tanzania without lethal striker Yuda Mugalu.

The youthful Bunamwaya forward has virtually been ruled out of the regional event after failing to stabilise since undergoing an intestine operation last Sunday.

Mugalu, whose predatory movements upfront is second to none in domestic football, is still on oxygen at Nsambya hospital.

According to medical reports, the 22-year-old had been suffering from an intestine leakage brought about by a hole that had gradually increased with time.

Mugalu seemed to have got back to life after the operation but went into coma four hours later. By press time Mugalu was still on a life-support machine in the Intensive Care Unit. “The condition is worrying but doctors have assured that he will be well. We are praying for him to recover,” Bunamwaya secretary Haruna Kyobe stated.

Mugalu collapsed after a training session on Saturday and was rushed to Nsambya. Kyobe explained that he had showed no signs of illness before he collapsed.

Mugalu’s absence will certainly limit Cranes head coach Laszlo Csaba’s attacking options in the event that runs December 2-20 in Dar es salaam.

The German has since asked FUFA to call South Africa-based striker Geoffrey Massa.

Hamis Kitagenda, Henry Kisekka and Tony Odur are the other striking options left in the team’s camp that was yesterday strengthened by the arrival of Sweden-based defender Abubakar Tabula.

Tabula, who vanished from the Cranes’ camp last year for professional trials, need to convince in Tanzania to win Csaba’s confidence.
