THE UPDF on Monday killed three Jie Karimojong warriors and recovered five guns in an operation at Lopuyo village north-west of Kotido town.

A total of 50 suspects were rounded up and they will be screened to identify those wanted by the Police for committing various crimes.

The UPDF 3rd Division public relations officer, Lt. Henry Obbo, said the soldiers were following up a failed highway ambush along the Kotido-Kaabong road.

“We were following their footmarks and also using the information that the chief raiders were holed up in the area,” Obbo said.

“We cordoned off the area to carry out a disarmament exercise. But they resisted and this showed that the area was a safe haven for criminals.”

Obbo added that the UPDF on Friday killed another warrior and recovered a gun in an ambush in Loyoro sub-county, Kaabong district.

Another warrior, he said, was killed when he tried to fire at the soldiers patrolling in Lopei sub-county, Moroto district.

“We have had many incidences where armed Karimojong are killed during ambushes, laid by the UPDF routes used by the warriors,” Obbo said.

He added that 274 illegal guns were recovered from the Karimojong this month.
