The NRM candidate in the Bugweri parliamentary by-election, Kirunda Kivejinja, has compared his opponents to immature boys trying to woo a beautiful girl.

“They are too young and lack the right words to woo the beautiful girl of Bugweri,” Kivejinja told a rally at Kigalamo Primary School in Makuutu sub-county on Wednesday.

He compared the by-election to a situation where several boys try to woo a village belle but the shrewd one emerges victor.

“Infact, the winner is usually obvious from the start and even the girl knows who the suitor will be. That is the case with Bugweri where my votes are assured.”
He said his opponents were merely escorting him as he headed to victory once again.

“We won the polls in 2006 but FDC’s Abdu Katuntu took us to court.

“This time, we have several of his supporters who have defected. It is clear that he will get fewer votes,” Kivejinja said, as the crowd ululated.

He paraded the FDC defectors led by their former constituency chairman, George Ntende, who kept flashing the NRM thumbs-up sign, to applause from the crowd.
Kivejinja, who is also the Third Deputy Prime Minister and minister of Information and National Guidance, was stripped of the seat by the Supreme Court after it found him guilty of bribing and intimidating voters.

The other candidates in the race are Solomon Nabeta, Sam Kakaire, Kalamawo Menyha, Godfrey Nabongho and Shaban Nkuutu.

Elections are slated for December 12.
