The Ministry of Defence has instructed the office of the Masaka Resident District Commissioner (RDC) to evict over 20 families occupying the Bwala and Bukalati Air Fields in Masaka Municipality and Lukaya Town Council respectively.

The RDC, Bamusede Bwambale, confirmed the development at a press conference in his office yesterday, saying the Army had resolved to deploy troops at the airfields.

“When you see the soldiers in these areas, do not get scared. They are only protecting the air fields against further encroachment,” he said

He added that both air fields have been marked as strategic facilities for the East African Community.

The ministry of defence has resolved to compensate the affected families before eviction, according to the Public Relations Officer UPDF Armoured Brigade Kasijagirwa in Masaka, Lt Geoffrey Burashani.

The Regional Internal Security Officer, Lt Emmanuel Musinguzi, said the people encroaching on the air-force training ground at Nabugabo, Masaka district, should vacate the area to avoid accidents.
