ENTEBBE Golfer Vincent Byamukama stepped up a gear for the national championship title with victory in the Kinyara Sugar Open yesterday. Byamukama hit 78 strokes yesterday after 74 on yesterday at the par-71 course here.

The display earned Byamukama his third win of the season after the Mukwano Open and Arua Open victories.
“At least I have something to go back home with,†the 20-year-old explained.
Byakuma beat the host club’s Dennis Aguma who carded 154 at the event sponsored by Kinyara and Celtel Uganda.
Byamukama, who sunk eight birdies, is involved in a close battle for the national championship title with the holder Stephen Birungi and George Olayo. Birungi had a disastrous run with 169, while Olayo skipped the event.
