AFTER backing musicians from the Eagles Production band for a long time, new-kid-on-the-block, Stella Kayaga, has decided to go solo. Kayaga, 24, recently released her six-track debut album titled Akazinga, which will be launched on Christmas Day.

Already, Akazinga, an Afro pop song is being played on CBS, Beat and other FMs. The other songs which include Ondeka Nnyo, Wenyeeze, Valentine, Kinemye Okukweka and Gwagala Ebisoko are a fusion of reggae, hip-hop and slow jams.

The artist says she writes her own music drawing her inspiration from real life. “I write about things I identify with such as joyful and sad moments.”
And it is evident in her music.

For example in the song Akazinga, Kayaga asks ‘her lover’ to find an island where they can live for the rest of their lives so that no one antagonizes them.

In Gwagalamu Ebisoko, Kayaga urges women to employ new tricks in their relationships so as to enjoy them.
Yet this, as she confesses, “is just the beginning. I promise to come up with more and better music.”

All this zeal, Kayaga confesses, is inspired by singer Mariam Ndagire whom Kayaga says in musical class of her own. “Whenever I pray, I ask God to avail me with strength to reach Mariam Ndagire’s musical status. I love what that lady does in music,” she admits.

Although this is her maiden album it is not the first time Kayaga has recorded music. In 2005, she paired up with Original Pius last year to record a joint album titled Gwagala Ebisoko.
Gwagalamu Ebisoko became a hit on many of the local FMs introducing her to music lovers.

Kayaga began her singing career in secondary school at Buddo SS. After school, she joined the Eagles Production in 2004 and later quit after a few misunderstandings with the group.

Born to David Sseruuma and Emilly Nakuya, in Mutundwe, Kayaga is the second of seven children.
