AKRIGHT Projects, a real estate developer, has invited renowned R&B artist, Usher Raymond for the launch of Akwood Artists Village, the local version of Hollywood early next year.

The village is expected to boost the local tourism and entertainment industries.
“Our delegation met him in Atlanta, Georgia, during our recent visit to the US, and he agreed to come and take part in the launch of this expansive initiative, which will see Uganda’s film industry get on its feet,” Anatoli Kamugisha, the head of Akright, told journalists recently.

He said the village would be on a 30-acre piece of land in Kakungulu Akright Satellite City on Entebbe Road. It will have studios, theatre, leisure centre, amusement park and cottages for artists. The village will help film makers camp for weeks to compose, act and screen films.
. Kakungulu is located 18kms on Kampala-Entebbe Road.

“Tourism is a catalyst to development, while theater and a well developed film industry can help make Uganda’s dream to become a major tourism spot come to fruition,” said Kamugisha.
