Mengo urges KCC to regularise its occupation of Buganda land

MENGO has asked Kampala City Council (KCC) to regularise its occupation of the Kabaka’s land. The Buganda Land Board officials in May wrote to Kampala Mayor Nasser Ssebaggala reminding him that some of KCC’s properties were on the 350 square miles that were returned to the Kabaka under Traditional Rulers (restitution of Assets and Properties) Act 1993 commonly known as the Ebyaffe Act.
The properties include Nabagereka Primary School, Katwe primary and secondary school, Kitebi primary and secondary schools and Kyamula health clinic in Konge.
Others are Kawaala KCC clinic, Kisenyi clinic, and Bwaise and Makindye KCC divisional headquarters.
The officials noted that KCC authorities had never responded to their letter and they would be forced to take court action if they ignored them.
Mayor Sebaggala on Thursday admitted to receiving the letter from Mengo.
He said there were many other properties in Kampala not only for the kingdom but for Asians which were still under contention.
He said: “I forwarded all these people’s concerns to the Minister of Local Government for action.â€
Sebaggala added that he was waiting for the local government ministry’s position.
Efforts to get a comment from minister Kahinda Otafire failed.
