KABAKA Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and 10 other Buganda royal children have sued the Government seeking to recover about sh200b as compensation for their lost land.

The land that is situated on Mutungo and Luzira hills in the eastern suburb of Kampala belonged to the late Kabaka of Buganda, Sir Edward Muteesa II. Muteesa was a father to some of the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs, who also included the queen mother, Lady Damali Kisosonkole, were represented by Muzamiru Kibeedi.
The others are Dorothy Nassolo, Prince Henry Kalemeera, Sarah Kagere, Agnes Nabaloga, Michael Ndaula, David Golooba, Herbert Kateregga, David Wassajja, Dina Kigga and Diana Teyeggala.

They are suing as administrators and beneficiaries of their father’s estate.
The land, comprised in Mailo register Volume 962, folios 19, measures 640 acres.

The royals alleged that when their father was forced into exile by Milton Obote in 1966, the Registrar of Titles in the Ministry of Lands fraudulently transferred his land into other peoples’ names.

According to court records, the land was transferred without transfer forms into the names of Andrew Paul Kintu, who is believed to be non-existent.

The property was then registered under Lake View Properties, also believed to have been non-existent.
Later, the registrar transferred 544 acres of the land to Muhammad Buwule in 1979, after Lake View Properties wound up.

The plaintiffs alleged that a non-director of the company signed the transfer of their land, an action that would not have been concluded without the collusion of the registrar. However, the Attorney General denied being liable for what happened.

Justice Moses Mukiibi, the head of the Land Division at the High Court, said the case would be heard on February 19, 2008.

The judge urged all parties to be present in court on that day, warning that he was adjourning it for the last time.
