Kantinti leads in chess qualifiers

NATIONAL chess champion Shadrack Kantinti prevailed over fast raising youngster Davis Agaba in the seventh round to lead the Olympiad qualifiers with 5.5 points at the weekend.

NATIONAL chess champion Shadrack Kantinti prevailed over fast raising youngster Davis Agaba in the seventh round to lead the Olympiad qualifiers with 5.5 points at the weekend.

Kantinti is half a point ahead of Bob Bibasa and Hassan Mulambe who shared the position at Lugogo on Sunday.
Bibasa was held by Grace Nsubuga and Mulambe shared the spoils with Harold Wanyama to tie in second spot.

The highlight saw national junior champion Arthur Ssegwanyi dispatch Olympian Moses Kawuma in a Petroff Defense to register 4.5 points and tie with Wanyama in fourth position.

Kawuma and Nsubuga are slightly out of contention with four points each. Last round games are due this weekend to vet the final team of five to the Olympiad in Dresden, Germany in July next year.
