BUGANDA Kingdom officials on Wednesday reconciled with the Prime Minister, Prof. Apolo Nsibambi. Mengo fell out recently with Nsibambi following his letter clarifying on the proposed land amendments.

The letter angered the kingdom, prompting it to refund sh2m Nsibambi had contributed towards the renovation of the Mengo palace.

“Following a recent meeting we had with the Lukiiko (Mengo parliament), the Bataka (elders) and Baganda politicians, we ironed out our differences,” the acting Katikkiro, Emmanuel Ssendawula, said during a Buganda Royal Christmas carols service at Bulange gardens.
Ssendawula asked the Baganda politicians, especially MPs, to promote the kingdom’s interests.

“For purposes of your integrity and for the good of the kingdom, I implore you to always avoid being used to promote the Government’s agendas that are not in the interest of Buganda,” he said.

The Katikkiro urged the Baganda to unanimously support the resolutions passed by the Lukiiko.
“In the struggle to promote and defend the interests of Buganda, the best weapon to use is to be united and to unreservedly support the decisions of the Lukiiko.”

On the proposed amendments to the Land Act, Ssendawula said they would come up with a manual explaining why the kingdom is opposed to the Bill.
“Even after making amendments to the Bill, it still has many loopholes.”

He added that the amendments were aimed at grabbing the kingdom’s land.
The Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala Archdiocese, the Rev. Fr. Christopher Kakooza, who presided over the function, asked Ugandans to be united to live in harmony.
