NEW Vision vendors received Christmas packages from the company for their dedication throughout this year. Over 2,500 vendors in Kampala celebrated as they carried away their packages worth sh73m at newspaper’s head offices in Kampala’s Industrial Area.

Handing out the gifts, marketing manager Tony Glencross said: “This is one of the nicest times of the year filled with celebration and reflection. We are saying, ‘Thank you’.”

He said the vendors were vital adding: “Without you who would sell our paper in the city and the country. We wouldn’t be in such great business as we are.”

The company, he added, always acknowledged their hard work. Sales manager Joseph Lwanga said the Christmas/Eid package included rice, sugar, cooking oil, soap and a T-shirt.

He said the distribution of gifts started on Monday and would end on Friday after reaching all the 4,000 vendors nationwide.

A 76-year-old, Nuru Nassuna, who vends newspapers on Kampala Road, said: “Apart from the ailments I have, I am so happy to receive this package on Eid Adhua.”

“It’s good for the company to remember us for the hard work, but request umbrellas to shield us from the hot sun and the rain,” said Vincent Damulira, 59, who is based at the Post Office and Bank of Uganda on Kampala Road.

Hadija Nasimbwa, 70, who sells newspapers on Charm Towers, said: “I have been able to support my grandchildren and myself. I am still going to share with them this package. I am happy after a long year of hard work, someone appreciates.”

Sarah Nakitto, 48, who also sells newspapers near Radio One on Kampala Road, said she had vended New Vision for seven years and been able to educate her children. “This package has come at a good time, I have achieved so much and I thank God.” Gladys Nambalirwa, 60, based on Entebbe Road, said: “I have been vending newspapers since 1953, I consider myself a veteran and I don’t take such rewards for granted.”
