Ocici battles Byamukama in the Jinja Open

TWO of Uganda’s leading golf youngsters Vincent Byamukama and Frank Mugisha clash at the two-day Eskom Jinja Open that tees off at the par 9 course at Jinja golf club today.

TWO of Uganda’s leading golf youngsters Vincent Byamukama and Frank Mugisha clash at the two-day Eskom Jinja Open that tees off at the par 9 course at Jinja golf club today.
Byamukama, who is the national golf champion and stroke play leader, will meet his nearest challenger Mugisha in what is expected to be a hotly-contested duel.
“I am looking forward to meeting him and battling him on the course. I know he will give me a good challenge in the tournament,†Mugisha said. “I have been training hard and I know the course layout and I want to win this tournament and also gain enough points on the leader board.â€
Mugisha, 22, is the winner of the Crane Bank Kigezi Open and also finished second in the Western Open in March and has 15 points, one short of Byamukama in the stroke-play rankings.
The two youngsters are poised to play in the same group which will put them in the spotlight at the event.
“I will be seeking to take a lead on the opening day of action because it gives you ground to calculate your game the following day but at the same time I will take caution,†Mugisha said.
“While I will be seeking for glory, we at Tooro golf club also work as a team and my colleagues will motivate each other.†Eskom have sunk sh25m into the two-day tournament that will attract over 124 golfers from all over the country.
