REGIONAL soccer body CECAFA has withdrawn the 2009 club championships from Uganda and taken it to Sudan.

Uganda was due to host the annual event which attracts champions from all the 11 member countries starting June 30.

FUFA chief executive Edgar Watson said yesterday they lost the hosting rights to Sudan due to lack of a co-sponsor.

Rwanda President Paul Kagame sponsors the event.

CECAFA secretary Nicholas Musonye had asked FUFA to host the event after GTV which sponsored the Senior Challenge Cup and the Uganda league agreed to commit funds for the event before it collapsed.

The change will affect SC Villa who were to be entered alongside local champions KCC.

Kenya’s Tusker FC are defending champions.
