NAKAWA Court on Thursday issued a fresh arrest warrant for Makindye Division chairman Moses Kalungi over charges of under-declaring goods and forgery.

The court had earlier issued criminal summons for Kalungi on charges of evading taxes amounting to about to sh77m after he allegedly under-declared consignments of goods from Japan in 2006.

However, the Nakawa Grade One Magistrate, George Obong, ruled that fresh arrest warrants should be issued because the Police had wrongly served the first summons.

“Since the accused person was charged as managing director of Highway Motors in Ndeeba, the criminal summons should be served on him at his trade company in Ndeeba on Kampala-Masaka road and not at his LC III chairman offices as it had been done,” Obong ordered.

The magistrate ordered that Kalungi should appear in court on June 8, 2009 to answer the charges.

Kalungi is said to have under-declared 120 units of used motorcycles, 56 units of used boat engines and saloon car engines.
