KCC, we need walkways in the city centre

I wish to thank Kampala City Council (KCC) for the beautification being done in the city centre. However, this should not be limited to the city centre alone. Jinja road needs the same attention.

I wish to thank Kampala City Council (KCC) for the beautification being done in the city centre. However, this should not be limited to the city centre alone. Jinja road needs the same attention.

Take an example of the road island near Game. Some little work is needed to make it look like a road in a city. One flaw I have noticed is the lack of walkways for pedestrians in Kampala. At the green in front of London Chambers, pedestrians are forced to walk on the road competing for space with taxis and boda-bodas which can be very dangerous.

Walkways should therefore be provided on the upcoming ventures. KCC is doing some work but they need to be helped by the owners of buildings to make Kampala a beautiful city. The owners do not seem to be concerned.

I therefore request KCC to enact a bylaw code-named “Operation Dust-free City” that will compel all property owners to pave all walkways In the e 21st century, we we should not be seeing dust or mud on the streets of a town.

It is particularly embarrassing in the capital city! If the property owners do not comply, their businesses should be closed. I am sure within a week all shop verandas and walkways will be paved.

This will not only reduce dust and mud in the city but Kampala will be neater, cleaner and more beautiful. KCC should also think of green places in the city centre. There are also places which need fountains. I believe if such places are taken care of, Kampala will look very beautiful.
