Eight people were killed by armed thugs in Iriiri sub-county in last week. The LC5 chairperson, Peter Lochap, said the killing had caused fear among the people. “The situation is puzzling. We have not established why the thugs have resorted to killing innocent people,” he said last week. Lochap said he camped at Iriiri for five days to assess the situation. “They attack at night and loot property before killing their victims,” he explained. The district Woman MP, Stella Namoe, last month expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation during a council meeting. The regional Police chief, Okot Obwana, vowed to arrest the criminals.

Health centre gets donation
- PALLISA
Patients in Buseta Health Centre have received blankets, buckets, slashers and furniture from Barclays Bank. The items were handed over to the Buseta LC3 chairperson, Sadiki Wabwire, at the centre last week. The bank employees also cleaned the centre and slashed the compound before officially opening the patients shade built by the bank. The bank’s eastern regional vault custodian, Robert Lukwago, said the initiative was part of the bank’s social corporate responsibility. Lukwago said the centre has been receiving about 70 patients daily, but they had nowhere to sit as they waited to be attended to. The centre also serves as an HIV/AIDS outreach clinic.
