The acting Inspector General of Government, Raphael Baku, has regretted the passive role the opposition political parties play in the fight against corruption.

Baku said since the inspectorate was established, no opposition politician had filed a complaint on graft or embezzlement.

He noted that while the opposition was vocal against corruption, none of them had volunteered information to the inspectorate.

“They have relevant information that could be useful to pursue the culprits, but they merely speak in public occasions,” he stated.

Baku was on Tuesday addressing civic leaders from the districts of Tororo, Butaleja, Budaka, and Manafa at Rock Classic Hotel in Tororo. He said the inspectorate relies on the public to investigate corruption cases.

The Tororo LC5 vice-chairperson, Martin Etoori, said favouritism had led to the recruitment of incompetent people.
