WEST Nile sailed to the semi-finals of the MTN Inter regional championships with a dramatic 3-3 draw against Buganda here yesterday.

They play Western in the second semifinal tomorrow. The first semifinal is between Western and Mid-Northern after the hosts won 1-0 to eliminate Kampala yesterday.

In an ecstatic last group A match, team captain Silver Ochaya netted the opener just after 28 seconds to put Buganda in the lead and register the fastest goal of the meet.

The former SC Villa player doubled the lead on 36 minutes and Farouk Ssentongo made it 3-0 with a 30-yard scorcher.

But the versatile West Nile players, who have drafted veteran Boroboro coach Leo Adraa to back Charles Letti fought back to pick three terrific goals in nine minutes. Farouk Andama, Mutwalibu Tamale and substitute Denis Eriku brought the game to level.

“We had to fight for goals because our game was on a thin thread. Thank God we succeeded, I’m very happy for Adraa’s contribution,” an excited Letti said.

But Eastern coach Frank Anyau was not amused and said the draw was a conspiracy to eliminate his team.

“Buganda officials said we would be out by today. I’m not surprised it was a syndicate.”

Buganda team manager Badru Ssentongo, dismissed the accusation. “If he (Anyau) thinks West Nile is easy to beat, why did he draw (0-0) with them.”
