Deputy Inspector General of Government Raphael Baku has said Justice Faith Mwondha is no longer in office.

Baku, presiding over the handover of computers from the Chinese embassy, yesterday, said he was still in charge of the Inspectorate of Government and that Mwondha had not been to the office in days.

There has been a controversy for the past four months over the reappointment of Mwondha as IGG.

The controversy was sparked off by her refusal to be vetted again by Parliament.

Unlike Mwondha, Baku appeared before the committee and was reappointed.

The Government also said Baku would take charge of the Inspectorate until the appointment of a substantive IGG. At the time, Mwondha was understood to be on leave.

However, the controversy deepened when Mwondha at beginning of May returned to the office from “leave” to resume her duties.

There are two petitions in the Constitutional Court in favour of the reappointment of Mwondha without being subjected to vetting by MPs.
